FAQ's

What Can I Expect from this Course?

Students will learn about the different acting techniques and methods used by

the most successful actors, and work on scenes chosen specifically for them

written by professional writers from major tv and film networks. They will be

introduced to the many aspects of filmmaking, behind-the-scenes jobs, film

genres, and commercial/hosting techniques. Students will leave the class with a

quality headshot, professionally filmed and edited starter reel (the scene that

they will be working on that week) a mini booklet of film/tv terms, a resume

template, and a list of helpful resources (acting/film books and articles).

Do I need to have prior experience to take this course?

No! In this intro course, we are welcoming a wide age range, and any level of

experience is accepted. Everyone in the class will be given moments of one on

one attention based on where they need/want to improve.

What happens next? Will there be more classes to look forward to?

Yes! The GCNYM Actors and Filmmakers Playground is designed to be an ongoing

program. Specifically, you can expect to see the Intermediate Acting/Filmmaking

course, and then the Advanced Acting/Filmmaking course to follow this one. Both

of these will dig deeper into specific Acting techniques, auditioning techniques, and

how to tape your own audition, the different types of film shots, study more

challenging/longer scenes to add to their reels, and be divided into more age

specific categories. We also plan to provide Master Classes that focus solely on

one area/idea (Meisner technique, drama acting, comedy acting, commercial and

tv hosting/interviewing, audition and self-tape technique, improvisation, writing,

directing, and more!)

What if I want to sign up, but all of the spots are full? Will there be another

chance to take this class?

Yes! If registration fills up for the July 17-21 class, we will schedule another week

offering the same exact course, for those who did not get a spot.

What if I am interested, but I am younger than 9 or older than 14?

Don’t worry, there will be opportunities in the future for you, too! We are

keeping this Intro class within the 9-14 range so that students can get the proper

attention/training that they need. Since this is our first course offered at the

GCNYM Actors and Filmmakers Playground, we wanted to offer it to a range that

would be able to work well together. We do plan to create an advanced class for

age 15-17 and a younger class if it is desired by the community.
